Why Ashland Ayurveda

Welcome to Ashland Ayurveda Health Center. I am so pleased you have found us! As your Ayurvedic Practitioner, here in the beautiful Rogue Valley of Southern Oregon, I offer Ayurvedic counselling, ancient Ayurvedic Body Therapies, Yoga, Yoga  Nidra, herbal remedies, talks, workshops and classes. I have been living, learning, studying and teaching in the healing profession for almost 25 years now. My journey of awakening started with Esalen massage, which lit the flame on healing journey and propelled me forward on my search for who I am. I went on to learn in-depth, Cranio-Sacral therapy, hypnotherapy, yoga and more. Each of these taught me more about myself and healed so many areas of my life that I always wanted to share the healing possibilities with others. Last but not least, I was called into the loving folds of Ayurveda, where I shall remain for the rest of my days. I am an Ayurvedic Herbalist,  as a result of what I have learned and felt with the power of plant consciousness many times over, it melts my heart. My passion and love of Ayurveda and humankind, these keep me grounded, heart centered and very compassionate for myself and others.  Having experienced first hand, the profound healing of Ayurveda in my life, I wish I could sing its praises from a mountain top. I too, as did the ancient rishis, wish to alleviate suffering in this world and Ayurveda is a great and loving, simple and elegant platform to do this from.

Thank you for visiting. I look forward to building the best health related relationship with you, as we embrace all of our humanity.

What is Ayurveda

Ayurveda is the oldest medical science known to man, making it the Mother of all healing and medical knowledge.

Its written history is over 5000 years old. Ayurveda is so much more than a mere system for the treatment of illness, it is the science of life, Ayur = life, Veda = science or knowledge.  Ayurveda is the science of aliveness that teaches us how to maintain balance and harmony within our bodies so everything remains in just the right proportion. The ancient enlightened ones, the Rishis of India, were gifted this wisdom of Ayurveda so that they could alleviate the suffering of the people. It continues to be one of the world’s most sophisticated and powerful mind-body health systems. It offers a vast body of wisdom, science and knowledge designed to help people stay vital while realizing their full human potential. Ayurveda provides guidelines on ideal daily and seasonal routines, food choices, and the proper use of our 5 senses for each unique individual. Ayurveda is a sister science to Yoga, together they create a life of vitality, health, resiliency and strength of body, mind and spirit. Ayurveda reminds us that our health is a balanced and dynamic integration between our environment, body, mind, and spirit. It is an entire system of self-care, with wisdom, beautifully specific enough to address each person’s unique body-mind type. As Ayurveda teaches, good health is dependent upon our capability to fully metabolize the nutritional, emotional, and sensory information that we ingest, not only through our food but what we take in with all of our five senses and our thoughts. Ayurveda seeks to bring us back into balance by providing guidelines for cultivating a life, living in harmony with nature’s rhythms so that the underlying, innate wisdom of the body can naturally promote the reestablishment of health, radiance, genuine sweetness and happiness.

Right living with Ayurvedic principles, originated from the 5-element theory. The five fundamental elements are in all of creation, their respective senses are:

  • sound [shabda] – ether element
  • touch [sparsha] – air element
  • vision [rupa] – fire element
  • taste [rasa] – water element
  • smell [gandha] – earth element

Each of these fundamental elements is in each of us and we generally have more of some than others and this is what creates the 3 Doshas.

  • Vata is air and ether
  • Pitta is fire and a bit of water
  • Kapha which is earth and water

It is within these Doshas and their dance, that we recognize the balances and imbalances in our lives and from there we begin to incorporate a loving, supportive plan, to bring ourselves back into health on all levels.

The two main guiding principles of Ayurveda are;

The mind and the body are inextricably connected, and Nothing has more power to heal and transform the body than the mind.

What I love most about the heart of Ayurveda, is the focus is on protecting and preventing disease, by turning toward Nature, with all of her beauty, wise healing ways and love. What a contrast to most modern day Western medicine approaches.
